A story in an ancient play

PISTHETAIROS
[Aesop's] story tells us that the lark was born
before the other birds, before the Earth.
Her father then grew sick and died. For five days
he lay there unburied—there was no Earth.
Not knowing what to do, at last the lark,
at her wits’ end, set him in her own head.

(A story in an ancient play about birds called The Birds, by Aristophanes
